  • Depth Chart - how to read>

    Sounds silly but I don't understand how to read the pitching depth charts. Specifically what is the # in the SP column? Almost appears to be % of team games started but the math doesn't work.

    It is the percentage of the balance of the season team innings pitched that each individual pitcher is projected to pitch. For example, on the Detroit depth chart, Justin Verlander is projected to pitch 16% of the Tigers' total team IP for the rest of the season. Total Detroit pitching projections slightly exceed 100%, but that's due to some uncertainty about who pitches as well as knowledge that if we project zero IP for a guy, you won't see any kind of projection for the player.
