  • Tanner Banks

Why does Tanner Banks who you have slated for 3% PT and 12% holds for Philadelphia not show up in your 2025 projections? I can understand the 1% PT pitchers not showing up but I would have expected Banks to make the pitching projections. How many others like these are there?

The following pitchers have no projections or projections that don't make sense.
Scott Barlow - 2% PT for Cincy with no projections.
Eduardo Bazardo - 2% PT with Seattle
Prelander Berroa with 111 runners allowed in 58 innings with an ERA of 6.67 and 9 saves and 10 holds. My guess is if he pitches that badly he is in the minors.
Brennan Bernardino with 9 holds in 15 innings.
Huascar Brazoban - 2.5% PT and 2% holds
Brock Burke - 3% PT with 10% holds
    Jesse Chavez - 2.5% PT
    Shawn Dubin - 3% PT
Gus Varland - ERA of 8.53 with a 1.81 WHIP and 9 saves/14 holds. Same argument as Berroa
John King - 3% PT and 15% holds
    Kyle Leahy - 3% PT 10% holds
Sreve Okert - 2% PT and 5% holds
Kaleb Ort - 3% PT and 5% holds
Elvis Peguero - 3% PT and 5% holds
    Wandy Peralta - 2% PT / 15% holds
    Zach Pop - 2% PT / 10% holds
    Gabe Speier - 3% PT / 5% holds
    Brock Stewart - 3% PT / 10% holds
    Brent Suter - 3% PT / 5% Holds
    Keegan Thompson - 3% PT / 5% holds
    Joey Wentz - 3% PT / 5% holds
    Steven Wilson - 3% PT / 5% saves / 10% holds
    Danny Young - 3% PT / 5% holds

There are about 30 of the 2.5-3% guys who don't have projections. Remember that 3% is ~42 innings for the year. I'm still adding them a few at a time, esp as we start to figure out which of these guys are actually going to make Opening Day rosters. But honestly, there's very little fantasy relevance in that group.

Berroa and Varland are an unusual (and defensible) case because they are on the White Sox. We don't know who their closer will be, every site you look at is listing these same options, and they're all bad.

The IP%/Holds% are not necessarily in conflict in most of those cases. Wandy and King are probably in conflict. But 2-3% PT and 5% holds is entirely reasonable. 2-3% PT and 15% Holds is not.

Thanks Ray - I will stay tuned and keep checking up to draft day. On Berroa and Varland it's also the ERA/WHIP that I think you may need to alter. Even on the White Sox if they pitch that badly they won't accumulate those level of IP. Thanks again.

Someone's got to pitch for the White Sox.

Ray - For those of us who are in very deep leagues counting holds and have drafts coming up for the next 3 weekends - those relievers that you like well enough like Tanner Banks and others projected to have 10% + holds (not insignificant)- when might we get some projections for these relievers? I play in a league with 20 owners that count holds and saves equally so we go very deep on relievers with roughly 140-160 rostered including our reserve lists. Your help would be greatly appreciated..

John, as I said just two days ago, I will continue to add these low-IP guys over the next couple of weeks. I will add the 2.5-3% guys this weekend. The 2% and under guys I will not add until we get some indication that they are making the Opening Day roster. 2% is 28 IP, many of those guys are injury cases, later-in-season callup possibilities, etc.

I understand your desire for completeness in the projections. But I think you're drastically overstating the scope of any issue here. There were 2600 Holds in MLB last year. Our current mixed-league projection file has 2420 Holds in the file. You have plenty of deep-league targets already.
