I've been trying to figure out what data makes up the denominator for GB, FB, and LD. I've had no success after going down a few avenues. It would appear that the HQ figures match with Fangraphs.
Let's use Carlos Correa as an example (data from FG which I believe comes from BIS):
All of these % calculations use Balls in Play as the denominator. I'm having a tough time figuring out which columns would make up BIP. I've tried: AB - SO, AB - SO - HR. The closest I can get the BIP number to the sum of GB + FB + LD uses AB - SO + SF + SH - Bunts.
Any idea how to calculate the BIP figure that represents the percentages shown on HQ?
Let's use Carlos Correa as an example (data from FG which I believe comes from BIS):
Percent | Count | |
GB | 39.1% | 81 |
FB | 39.6% | 82 |
LD | 21.3% | 44 |
Any idea how to calculate the BIP figure that represents the percentages shown on HQ?
