  • help me understand, please

    Thanks in advance.

When I study the Player Links to evaluate & determine
whether to drop/add/trade, I never know which $$ value
    to use - R$ or 5x5$.

We play in a pts scoring league, so I'm guessing neither
is really specific to my format. Sometimes the difference
is small, but some are large enough to create confusion
and indecision. (Not HQ's fault, of course...mine).

Given our scoring rules below, can someone tell me which
more closely mirrors my league? Maybe it's neither, and I'll
need to figure it out another way.

Love the site, it's been a big help. I just want to be able to
use it as effectively as possible.

    Scoring for Batting Categories
    1B - Singles 1 point
    2B - Doubles 2 points
    3B - Triples 3 points
BB - Walks (Batters) 1 point
CS - Caught Stealing -1 point
HP - Hit by Pitch .5 points
HR - Home Runs 4 points
KO - Strikeouts (Batter) -1 point
    R - Runs 1 point
RBI - Runs Batted In 1 point
SB - Stolen Bases 1 point

    Scoring for Pitching Categories
BBI - Walks Issued (Pitchers) -.5 points
BS - Blown Saves -2 points
CG - Complete Games 9 points
ER - Earned Runs -1 point
    INN - Innings 0.5 points
    K - Strikeouts (Pitcher) 1 point
    L - Losses -5 points
    S - Saves 3 points
    SO - Shutouts 5 points
    W - Wins 7 points

Yeah, neither 4x4 or 5x5 values are going to give you the accuracy you'd probably like, Kid. In particular, speed and saves are very differently valued in your league than in simple 4x4 or 5x5.

It's a little labor-intensive, but the best thing for you to do would be to download the Excel projection sheets, and add a column that calculates your exact league values. All the raw data is in the file, you just need to add your point values.

thanks, Ray. I appreciate the heads up.

I'll be honest, once beyond the standard
      sort/filter/cut/paste Excel functions, I would
not know how to do that.

Would that perhaps be a service I could
pay for under the Custom Analysis banner?

Either for the formula or for finished product?

      Thanks for responding.

Kid, I don't think this would really be in the Custom Advisor domain... but if I get a few moments tonight I'll try and whip up the formula, then post it here. All you'd have to do is paste into a new Excel column. No promises, but I'll see what I can do.

You are a good man, Ray. I would still be happy
to pay for it. Let me at least pay for a "full roster
analysis", since I will use it to do as such.

Receiving something that I can't provide is always
          worth some coin, imo.

          Again, thanks.

Hey Kid and Ray ... I tried to do this and there are not projections in the Excel sheets for HBP, Shutouts, Blown Saves.
            - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I guess the attempt would be somewhat limited in usefulness then. I always hated using SHO as a category because I don't think of them as predictable anyway. I'll still take a crack, as long as Kid knows it won't be perfect.

no need for perfection...just something close enough for me
to gauge expectations. Throw out any categories that would
muck up the works (SHO, BS, CG, etc....) and I would still
sing your praises. Anything that would more closely aid
in judging values for a points scoring league as opposed to
4x4 and 5x5 would be fantastic.

I really appreciate y'all taking the time.

Didn't get to it last night Kid, will try again tonight.

Hey Kid, here's the hitter formula. You'll want to download the hitter projection files, take this formula and paste it into the first column that's open on the right. Paste it into the first player row (which should be BF5) then copy it down thru the rest of the BF column.

                    =((AI5-AJ5-AK5-AL5)+(AJ5*2)+(AK5*3)+(AL5*4)+(AN5)+(-1*AO5)+(AH5)+(AM5)+(AP5)+(-1*AQ5))

and here's the pitching formula. Same procedure:

                    =(-0.5*AS5)+(-1*AQ5)+(0.5*AO5)+(AT5)+(-5*AL5)+(3*AN5)+(7*AK5)

                    Good luck!

                      Brilliant!

it worked without a hitch. Thanks for taking the time
to do this for me. I am a much pleased customer.
                      Have a great week.
