  • SGP Denom formula error? - AL WHIP

The SGP denominator formula for AL WHIP listed in Gerald Holmes' article of 1/16/04 appears to contain an error.

    (1.43-((1448.2+H+BB)/(1050+IP)))/0.017

For the above formula to work, the league avg WHIP should be the result of league avg H+BB divided by the avg IPs. However, there is an error here...1448.2/1050 does not equal 1.43. It equals 1.38.

This means that the 1.43 should be changed to 1.38, or the 1448.2 needs to be higher. Which is it?

Let me double check this and see what I can come up with. I should be able to get back to you this weekend.

      link to original article

In case anyone else had as much difficulty finding the original article as I did, here's a link: http://www.baseballhq.com/subscribe/ei/exp040116.shtml

Also, is the 5450 number in the AL batting average formula correct? There's a thread here -- http://www.baseballhq.com/subscribe/...&threadid=2722 -- that states the NL number is 5600 but I just want to confirm that the AL figure is unchanged.

If anyone knows the answer to Slomocho's question, please post it.
