I'm new to the BPV metric. Are they on the same "scale" for both batters and pitchers? In other words, Brian Giles has a 2004 BPV of 106. So does Trevor Hoffman. Am I to infer that both Giles and Hoffman are players of comparable quality or skill? Or are pitchers BPV's scaled differently than hitters? the glossary says the benchmark for both batters and hitters is 50.

Comparing batter v. pitcher BPVs

The original intent was to have them both on the same scale, but they're really not. We don't use batting BPV all that much as the pitching version is far more valuable.
But in general, it is more difficult for a batter to achieve 100 than it is for a pitcher. Usually only a few batters will reach that level in a year, while a good 2 dozen pitchers might (though most all relievers).
