a week or two ago I used the old valuator and get these values:

      Arod: 46.42
      Pujols: 44.84
      Crawford: 39.12

the new valuator gives me this:
      Arod: 31.72
      Pujols: 31.67
      Crawford: 26.02 (now 5th instead of 3rd)

I really dont know what the correct values are and it makes a huge difference when considering a trade for these guys. The top values are closer to what I'd expect. The new valuator is generating values that seem much lower than in years past.

My leage is 14 teams mixed 5x5, 280 cap.

I run 14-team mixed 5x5 w/280 cap and get the following:

        "balanced" mode:

        Pujols $37.27
        ARod $36.68
        DLee $30.95
        Vlad $30.84
        Bay $29

        "top players" mode:

        Pujols $46.45
        ARod $44.82
        DLee $37.51
        Vlad $37.25
        Bay $34.01

There is a lot of power and control over the data in the new version, but as the numbers above show, you need to play with the variables a little bit to find the combination of factors that mirrors your environment.

I get the following using 14 teams, mixed, 280 budget, 70/30 split, 7 player bench, use fractional, do not force positions, top players valuation method. Positions are default except 1 C and 2 UT.

            Albert Pujols $39.64
            Alex Rodriguez $38.77
            Derrek Lee $32.82
            Vladimir Guerrero $32.81
            Jason Bay $30.45

I don't think that's wrong. The "bench players" aspect wasn't in the last tool, that's going to move the values quite a bit. Only use the "bench" option (as I understand it) if you pay budget dollars for your bench guys... not if you do a reserve draft or other non-cash option.

ah I see. We acquire bench players during the auction but I would rather plan on going pretty cheap on those guys. It makes more sense for me to use 0 for bench and be flexible during the auction.

                thanks!

I am playing with the new value calculator. I'd like to report a few minor errors, suggest some minor upgrades, and offer some praise.

NL 4x4 14x9 no bench, did not force positions, used top players

                  1) When I use "position sort" pitcher Chris Young (SD) shows up as a $12 hitter with zero AB's.

                  2) The column width for RAR isn't wide enough. Players with large negative RAR (look at Raul Chavez) overflow the column which generates an additional blank line in the output. This additional line makes it incredibly difficult to paste the results in to excel for further custom manipulation. Please fix this.

                  3) Looks like 20-30 players are missing their age and batting data (L vs R vs S). Is that just missing data that will be added later? OR is it some kind of programming issue that is preventing the data from being displayed?

                  4) The $0 and $-1 and $-2 pitchers aren't sorted by value properly. EXAMPLE:

                  Eischen,Joey 35 L WAS $0 2 2 51 0 44 40 17 4 19 38 3.48 1.34 7.8 3.9 3.7 0.8 2.0 315 3.7 64 3.71

Notice how Herges ($-1) and Capuano ($-2) are mixed in with the $0 guys.

                  5) I find the dollar signs a big pain. I'd like them removed. They also make it very difficult to paste the results in to excel for further custom manipulation.

                  6) When a player is eligible at multiple positions (Ryan Freel for example) he only shows up in the position sort once. In a position sort he should show up twice, once at 2B and once in the OF. That's one of the reasons we do position sorts.

Now for the good stuff: I think this is an incredibly valuable tool. I really like the format and the input options. Thanks!!

derossi, as posted on the Valuator page, please email issues to 'techsupport@baseballhq.com' rather than post them in the forums. It's not that we don't want to hear them (we're happy to respond, as you've seen above), but the techies are checking their email for feedback, not the forums.
