  • Confusion over "Expected Strand Rate"

Could anyone give me some indication on how Expected Strand Rate is determined? I know it's discussed in the Forecaster and is a big part of the Graphical Pitcher, but I don't see anywhere it's definition is specifically laid out.

The reason I bring this up is because, with projected BPV, it's one of the main ways I evaluate relief pitchers. And with one of my leagues going from Saves to Holds+Saves, grabbing some low-priced good middle relievers, and ignoring high-priced closers, is going to be my strategy for the next season.

    Thanks.

    SteveL,

I don't have the Forecaster in front of me, but I think that there is an essay about xS% in the front of the book. Anyway, the formula is

    xS% = 64.5 + (K/9 * 1.2) - (BB/9 * (BB/9 + 1)) / 20 + (GB% - 42) / 20

    Hope this helps,
    John
