having trouble understading the dom rating portion of pitchers bpv . can you go thru that perhaps using t adams 2004 final numbers as an example?

After I posted that reply, I found a consistent discrepancy between the results of the Pitchers' BPV formula posted in the glossary and the BPV scores listed on the Projections worksheets.

It turns out that the glossary formula is out-of-date; Ron tells us that the worksheets run the BPV calculation using OOB instead of OBA, since it is OOB that is included on the sheet.

The adjustment to the formula is:

(Opposition On Base Average - .345)

instead of

(Opposition Batting Average - .275)

Using Adams, then:

BPV=(Dom*6)+(CMD*21)-(HR/9*30) - ((OOB-.345) x 200)

=(7.2*6)+(2.0*21)-(1.286*30)-((.35398-.34500)*200)

=43.2+42.0-38.5-1.8

=44.9 =~45

Note that if you use the Dom, CMD and HR/9 figures shown in the sheet, to one place of decimal, and the OOB to three places (you actually have to divide that term by 1,000), you actually come out to 44.4 BPV, because of rounding.
